Description

A delightful Marble Cake that combines vanilla and chocolate flavors in a beautiful marbled design.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the cocoa powder and hot water to create a smooth chocolate mixture. Take about one-third of the vanilla batter and mix it with the chocolate mixture until well combined.
  6. Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan. Use a knife or a skewer to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marbled effect. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider adding ½ cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
  • To make a lighter version, substitute half of the butter with unsweetened applesauce.
