Description

Sutlac is a creamy rice pudding that is both delicious and easy to make, perfect for dessert lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2/3 cup short-grain rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for garnish)
  • Chopped nuts or raisins (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of milk. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the milk.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the remaining 2 cups of milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. In another small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the water, then add it to the milk mixture.
  3. Once the rice is cooked, gradually stir in the milk mixture. Cook over low heat for an additional 10-15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the pudding thickens to your desired consistency.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Pour the sutlac into individual serving bowls or a large dish.
  5. If desired, sprinkle with ground cinnamon and garnish with chopped nuts or raisins. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the whole milk with coconut milk.
  • Add a splash of almond extract for a different flavor profile or top with fresh fruit for added freshness.
