Description

Supplì are irresistible crispy risotto balls from Italy, perfect for a delicious appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked risotto (preferably cooled)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, diced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cooled risotto, diced mozzarella, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until the cheese is evenly distributed.
  2. Using your hands, take a small amount of the risotto mixture and form it into a ball about the size of a golf ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  3. Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, beat the eggs in another, and put the breadcrumbs in a third dish.
  4. Roll each risotto ball in the flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Ensure each ball is fully covered.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Carefully add a few risotto balls at a time, frying them until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the risotto mixture.
  • You can substitute the mozzarella with other cheeses like fontina or provolone for different flavors.
