Description
A classic Italian dish featuring a rich and hearty meat sauce served over spaghetti.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
- 1 medium celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and beef broth. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Once the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the sauce over the spaghetti. Garnish with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer for up to an hour.
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or a plant-based meat alternative for a lighter option.
