Description
Crispy Sesame Balls are a delightful treat filled with sweet red bean paste and coated in sesame seeds, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup red bean paste (or any filling of your choice)
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour, sugar, water, and salt. Stir until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until it is manageable.
- Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it slightly in your palm.
- Place about 1 teaspoon of red bean paste in the center of each flattened dough piece. Carefully fold the edges over the filling and roll it back into a ball, ensuring the filling is completely sealed inside.
- Roll each ball in sesame seeds until fully coated.
- In a deep pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Carefully drop the sesame balls into the hot oil, a few at a time, to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the balls for about 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Allow the sesame balls to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a different filling, try using sweetened coconut, chocolate, or even savory options like minced meat or vegetables.
- To make them extra crispy, double fry the sesame balls: fry them once until lightly golden, remove and let cool, then fry again until golden brown.
