Sardine Butter Crostini is a simple yet delicious appetizer that combines the rich flavors of sardines and butter, topped with fresh garnishes.

- 1 can sardines in olive oil (4.5 oz), drained
- 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp lemon zest
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 baguette, sliced 1/2 in
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- Parsley
- Optional: capers, radishes, pickled onions, microgreens
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mash the sardines in a bowl.
- Mix the mashed sardines with softened butter, lemon juice, lemon zest, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Adjust salt to taste.
- Brush the baguette slices with olive oil and bake for 5–7 minutes. Optionally, broil for 1–2 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Spread the sardine butter mixture on the toasted baguette slices.
- Top with optional garnishes such as capers, radishes, pickled onions, and microgreens.
- Finish with a sprinkle of parsley.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, consider adding a dash of hot sauce to the sardine butter mixture.
- These crostini are best served fresh but can be prepared in advance and assembled just before serving.
