Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for filling)
- 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded (or tofu for vegetarian option)
- 1/2 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup carrots, finely diced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil and mix until crumbly.
- Gradually add water, a little at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add ginger and garlic, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the shredded chicken (or tofu), green peas, carrots, soy sauce, sesame oil, cumin, coriander, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a circle about 6 inches in diameter.
- Cut the circle in half to create two semi-circles.
- Take one semi-circle, form a cone by bringing the straight edges together, and seal the edge with a little water.
- Fill the cone with about 1 tablespoon of the filling, then seal the top by pinching the edges together.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
- In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil for frying over medium heat.
- Once hot, carefully add a few samosas at a time, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add chopped jalapeños to the filling.
- For a healthier option, bake the samosas at 400°F for 20-25 minutes until golden, brushing them lightly with oil before baking.
