Description

A classic French dish, Quiche Lorraine is a savory pie filled with eggs, cream, cheese, and bacon, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 6 ounces cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. If using a store-bought pie crust, fit it into a 9-inch pie dish and prick the bottom with a fork. Pre-bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped bacon and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  6. Stir in the sautéed onion and bacon mixture, followed by the shredded Gruyère cheese.
  7. Pour the egg mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden on top. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean.
  9. Allow the quiche to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream and use low-fat cheese.
  • You can also add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for added flavor and nutrition.
  • For a twist, try using different cheeses such as cheddar or feta.
