Description

A classic French dish, Quiche Lorraine is a savory pie filled with eggs, cream, cheese, and bacon, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. If using a store-bought pie crust, place it in a 9-inch pie dish and prick the bottom with a fork.
  3. Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving about 1 tablespoon of bacon fat in the skillet.
  6. If desired, sauté the chopped green onions in the remaining bacon fat for 1-2 minutes until softened.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  8. Stir in the cooked bacon, sautéed green onions (if using), and shredded Swiss cheese.
  9. Pour the egg mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden on top.
  11. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  12. This quiche can be served warm or at room temperature.
  13. For best flavor, chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving if making ahead.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute half of the heavy cream with additional milk.
  • You can also add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
