Description
A classic French dish, Quiche Lorraine is a savory pie filled with eggs, cream, cheese, and bacon, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 6 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 green onions, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- If using a store-bought pie crust, place it in a 9-inch pie dish and prick the bottom with a fork.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving about 1 tablespoon of bacon fat in the skillet.
- If desired, sauté the chopped green onions in the remaining bacon fat for 1-2 minutes until softened.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Stir in the cooked bacon, sautéed green onions (if using), and shredded Swiss cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden on top.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
- This quiche can be served warm or at room temperature.
- For best flavor, chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving if making ahead.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute half of the heavy cream with additional milk.
- You can also add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
