Description

Delicious and airy profiteroles filled with whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and butter, and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour and salt until the mixture forms a ball.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Using a pastry bag or a spoon, drop tablespoon-sized mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the profiteroles are puffed and golden brown. Do not open the oven door during baking.
  8. Once done, remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. While the profiteroles cool, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. Once the profiteroles are cool, cut a small slit in the side of each one and fill with whipped cream.
  11. For the chocolate sauce, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
  12. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips, stirring until melted and smooth.
  13. Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the filled profiteroles before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of whipped cream for the filling.
  • Experiment with different fillings such as pastry cream or ice cream for a unique twist.
