Description

Profiteroles are delightful cream-filled pastries topped with rich chocolate sauce, perfect for any sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (for chocolate sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball. Allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Using a pastry bag or a spoon, drop tablespoon-sized mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each mound.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the profiteroles are puffed and golden brown. Do not open the oven door during baking.
  7. Once done, remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. While the profiteroles cool, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  9. Once the profiteroles are cool, slice them in half and fill each with the whipped cream.
  10. For the chocolate sauce, heat the chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the filled profiteroles before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter filling, substitute the whipped cream with vanilla yogurt.
  • For a different flavor, add a tablespoon of coffee or hazelnut liqueur to the whipped cream.
