Description

Discover the ultimate Turkish flatbread recipe with this delicious Pide, filled with savory meat and topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. While the dough is rising, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or lamb, onion, and bell pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick. Place the rolled dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Spoon the meat mixture onto the center of each oval, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the meat mixture.
  6. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to create a boat shape, pinching the ends to seal. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the edges of the dough for a golden finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and feta cheese.
  • Add spices like oregano or chili flakes to the meat mixture for an extra kick of flavor.
