Description
A creamy and easy-to-make vanilla panna cotta recipe that is perfect for any dessert occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 teaspoons unflavored gelatin (1 packet)
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- Fresh berries or fruit sauce for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the bloomed gelatin to the warm cream mixture and stir until completely dissolved.
- Pour the mixture into individual serving cups or ramekins.
- Allow the panna cotta to cool to room temperature, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.
- To serve, run a knife around the edge of each panna cotta and invert onto a plate, or serve directly in the cups. Top with fresh berries or fruit sauce if desired.
Notes
- For a chocolate version, melt 4 ounces of bittersweet chocolate into the cream mixture before adding the gelatin.
- For a coffee flavor, substitute half of the milk with brewed coffee.
