- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk, cold
- 4 ounces dark chocolate, cut into small sticks or chips
- 1 egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix well.
- Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold milk, mixing until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until smooth.
- Shape the dough into a rectangle, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- After chilling, roll the dough out into a larger rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into 6 equal rectangles.
- Place a few pieces of chocolate on one end of each rectangle.
- Fold the dough over the chocolate and roll it up tightly, sealing the edges.
- Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the croissants for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter twist, add a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top before serving.
- You can substitute dark chocolate with milk chocolate or almond paste for a different flavor.
