Description

A creamy and comforting dish made with rutabaga and potatoes, perfect as a side or a main.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups peeled and diced rutabaga (neeps)
  • 2 cups peeled and diced potatoes (tatties)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk (or cream for a richer taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped chives or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the diced rutabaga and potatoes. Cover with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender when pierced with a fork.
  3. Drain the vegetables and return them to the pot.
  4. Add the butter and milk to the pot. Mash the rutabaga and potatoes together until smooth and creamy.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve warm, garnished with chopped chives or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a twist, add roasted garlic or sautéed onions to the mash for extra flavor.
  • Substitute half of the rutabaga with sweet potatoes for a sweeter version of this dish.
