Description
Deliciously crispy mozzarella sticks perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces string cheese or mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Cut the string cheese or mozzarella sticks in half to create shorter pieces.
- Set up a breading station by placing the flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in a second dish, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third dish.
- Dip each cheese stick first into the flour, coating it completely, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well.
- Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Carefully add a few cheese sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For extra crunch, try double-breading the cheese sticks by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
- You can also experiment with different seasonings in the breadcrumb mixture, such as paprika or cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
