Description

Deliciously crispy mozzarella sticks perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces string cheese or mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Cut the string cheese or mozzarella sticks in half to create shorter pieces.
  2. Set up a breading station by placing the flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in a second dish, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third dish.
  3. Dip each cheese stick first into the flour, coating it completely, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well.
  4. Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
  5. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  6. Carefully add a few cheese sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, try double-breading the cheese sticks by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • You can also experiment with different seasonings in the breadcrumb mixture, such as paprika or cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
