Description

A classic French dessert made with layers of puff pastry and cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup pastry cream (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup chocolate ganache (optional, for drizzling)
  • Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. Cut the pastry into three equal rectangles, about 4 inches by 10 inches.
  3. Place the pastry rectangles on the prepared baking sheet. Prick the surface of each rectangle with a fork to prevent puffing too much during baking.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. While the pastry cools, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
  6. Once the pastry is cool, place one rectangle on a serving platter. Spread a layer of pastry cream over the top, followed by a layer of whipped cream.
  7. Top with a second pastry rectangle and repeat the layering process with pastry cream and whipped cream.
  8. Place the final pastry layer on top. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with chocolate ganache if desired.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a fruit variation, add fresh berries or sliced bananas between the layers for added flavor and texture.
  • To make a chocolate version, substitute half of the pastry cream with chocolate pastry cream or add cocoa powder to the whipped cream.
