Description
A classic Margherita Pizza recipe that is easy to make at home, featuring fresh mozzarella, basil, and a flavorful tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
- Extra olive oil for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- In a small bowl, mix the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, garlic powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 12 inches in diameter).
- Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper.
- Spread the tomato mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Arrange the mozzarella slices on top of the sauce, and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves.
- Carefully slide the pizza (with the parchment paper) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven, drizzle with extra olive oil, and let cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, pre-bake the rolled-out dough for 5 minutes before adding the toppings.
- Try adding toppings like sliced tomatoes, arugula, or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
