Description

A classic Margherita Pizza recipe that is easy to make at home, featuring fresh mozzarella, basil, and a flavorful tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • Extra olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, garlic powder, and salt. Set aside.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 12 inches in diameter).
  8. Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper.
  9. Spread the tomato mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  10. Arrange the mozzarella slices on top of the sauce, and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves.
  11. Carefully slide the pizza (with the parchment paper) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
  12. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  13. Remove from the oven, drizzle with extra olive oil, and let cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the rolled-out dough for 5 minutes before adding the toppings.
  • Try adding toppings like sliced tomatoes, arugula, or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
