Description

Manti are traditional Turkish dumplings filled with spiced meat, served with yogurt and a flavorful oil drizzle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package (16 ounces) wonton wrappers
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground meat, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the meat mixture in the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, and press to seal. Bring the two corners of the triangle together and pinch to seal, forming a little dumpling. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully drop the manti into the boiling water in batches, cooking for about 5-7 minutes or until they float to the surface and are cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. To serve, place the cooked manti on a plate, drizzle with the olive oil mixture, and top with a generous dollop of yogurt. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with finely chopped mushrooms and spinach, seasoned with the same spices.
  • Experiment with different sauces, such as a garlic yogurt sauce or a spicy tomato sauce, to add variety to the dish.
