Description

Mango Pomelo Sago is a refreshing dessert from Hong Kong that combines the sweetness of mangoes and the unique flavor of pomelo with chewy tapioca pearls in a creamy coconut milk base.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup pomelo segments, peeled and separated
  • 1/2 cup small tapioca pearls
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add the tapioca pearls and cook according to package instructions, usually about 15-20 minutes, until they are translucent. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Once cooked, drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and salt. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked tapioca pearls, diced mangoes, and pomelo segments. Pour the coconut milk mixture over the fruit and pearls, and gently fold to combine.
  4. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Serve in individual bowls or cups, garnished with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, you can substitute half of the coconut milk with heavy cream.
  • Add a splash of lime juice for a refreshing citrus twist that enhances the flavors.
