Description

Lahmacun is a delicious Turkish flatbread topped with a flavorful mixture of ground meat, vegetables, and spices, perfect for a quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped (red or green)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 large pita breads or flatbreads
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the ground lamb or beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomato, bell pepper, tomato paste, paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the mixture is well combined and heated through. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.
  5. Place the pita breads or flatbreads on a baking sheet. Spread an even layer of the meat mixture over each bread, leaving a small border around the edges.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are crispy and the topping is cooked through.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Cut into wedges and serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the lahmacun.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with finely chopped mushrooms or lentils and add extra spices for flavor.
  • Serve with a side of yogurt or a simple salad of cucumbers and tomatoes for a refreshing contrast.
