Description

Hotteok Sweet Pancakes are a delicious treat from South Korea, filled with a gooey mixture of brown sugar, nuts, and cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or peanuts)
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • Butter or oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped walnuts, and raisins in a small bowl. Set aside.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a disc about 4 inches in diameter.
  8. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each disc.
  9. Carefully fold the edges over the filling to seal it, forming a ball again.
  10. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
  11. Place the filled dough balls seam side down in the skillet.
  12. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and flatten gently with a spatula.
  13. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is golden and the filling is melted.
  14. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  15. Serve warm, and enjoy the gooey, sweet filling!

Notes

  • For a chocolate twist, add mini chocolate chips to the filling instead of nuts.
  • Try using different nuts or seeds, such as almonds or sunflower seeds, for a unique flavor.
