Description

Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian dessert made from milk powder and soaked in a sweet syrup, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup milk (adjust as needed)
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 cups sugar (for syrup)
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (for syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon rose water (for syrup)
  • A few drops of lemon juice (for syrup)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add cardamom powder, rose water, and lemon juice to the syrup. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking soda.
  4. Add ghee and mix until crumbly.
  5. Gradually add milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Let the dough rest for 10-15 minutes.
  6. While the dough rests, heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  7. Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a marble, ensuring there are no cracks.
  8. Once the oil is hot, gently drop the balls in, frying them in batches until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  9. Remove the fried balls and drain on paper towels.
  10. Once all the balls are fried, immerse them in the warm syrup. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a tablespoon of milk or cream to the dough.
  • You can substitute the rose water with orange blossom water for a different aroma.
