Description
Discover the secret to perfectly creamy caramel flan with this easy recipe.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a golden brown color. Be careful not to burn it. Once melted, quickly pour the caramel into a round 9-inch cake pan, tilting the pan to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined and smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the hardened caramel in the cake pan.
- Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate. The caramel will flow over the top.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of almond extract to the egg mixture.
- You can top the flan with fresh berries or whipped cream for added texture and flavor.
