Description

Discover the secret to perfectly creamy caramel flan with this easy recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a golden brown color. Be careful not to burn it. Once melted, quickly pour the caramel into a round 9-inch cake pan, tilting the pan to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined and smooth.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the hardened caramel in the cake pan.
  5. Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate. The caramel will flow over the top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of almond extract to the egg mixture.
  • You can top the flan with fresh berries or whipped cream for added texture and flavor.
