Description
Savory Pork and Vegetable Dumplings that will impress your guests!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup finely chopped napa cabbage
- 1/4 cup grated carrots
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/4 cup water (for steaming)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and boiling water. Stir with a fork until the mixture forms a shaggy dough. Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix the ground pork, napa cabbage, carrots, green onions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- After the dough has rested, divide it into 2 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a log and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
- Place a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, pinching the edges to seal. You can pleat the edges for a decorative touch if desired.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange the dumplings in the skillet, flat side down, and cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Carefully add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet and cover immediately. Steam the dumplings for about 5-7 minutes, until the water has evaporated and the dumplings are cooked through.
- Serve hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground pork with finely chopped mushrooms or tofu.
- Experiment with different fillings such as shrimp, chicken, or a mix of vegetables for a unique twist.
