Description
Churros rellenos are a delicious Spanish dessert filled with chocolate sauce, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup chocolate sauce (for dipping)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and granulated sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the butter melts. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the saucepan, stirring until a dough forms.
- Allow the dough to cool for about 10 minutes. Then, add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 6-inch long strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove churros from the oil and drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll them in powdered sugar.
- Using a small piping tip, fill each churro with chocolate sauce. Serve with extra chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a lighter version, try baking the churros instead of frying them. Preheat the oven to 400°F, place the piped churros on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
- For a flavor twist, add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the powdered sugar for dusting or mix it into the dough for a spiced churro.
