Description

Churros con Chocolate is a traditional Spanish dessert that features crispy fried dough served with a rich chocolate sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, granulated sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in flour until a dough forms. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in vegetable oil and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 375°F.
  5. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 6-inch long strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove churros from the oil and drain on paper towels. While still warm, dust with powdered sugar.
  7. For the chocolate sauce, combine chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth and melted.
  8. Serve churros warm with the chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a crispier churro, let the dough rest for 15 minutes before frying.
  • You can also add cinnamon to the powdered sugar for a spiced twist.
  • For a different dipping sauce, try caramel or a fruit sauce.
