Description

Indulge in this decadent chocolate mousse, a rich and creamy dessert that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and butter. Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture is pale and thick.
  3. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg yolk mixture, stirring until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  7. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
  • Add a splash of espresso or coffee liqueur to the chocolate mixture for a mocha twist.
