Description

Discover the delicious Chivito sandwich, a classic Uruguayan delight featuring layers of beef, bacon, and fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of crusty bread (such as ciabatta or bolillo)
  • 4 ounces of thinly sliced beef (such as sirloin or flank steak)
  • 2 slices of bacon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ounce of mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup of lettuce, shredded
  • 1/4 cup of tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sliced pickles or jalapeños for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain.
  2. In the same skillet, season the beef with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  3. In the same skillet, crack the egg and fry it sunny-side up or to your preference. Season with a pinch of salt.
  4. Slice the cooked beef into strips.
  5. Toast the bread lightly in the skillet or a toaster.
  6. Assemble the sandwich by spreading mayonnaise on one slice of bread. Layer the beef, bacon, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the fried egg. Add pickles or jalapeños if desired.
  7. Top with the second slice of bread and press down gently. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a few slices of jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce inside the sandwich.
  • Substitute the beef with grilled chicken or a plant-based protein for a different twist.
