Description
Discover the delicious Chivito sandwich, a classic Uruguayan delight featuring layers of beef, bacon, and fresh toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of crusty bread (such as ciabatta or bolillo)
- 4 ounces of thinly sliced beef (such as sirloin or flank steak)
- 2 slices of bacon
- 1 large egg
- 1 ounce of mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1/4 cup of lettuce, shredded
- 1/4 cup of tomato, sliced
- 1/4 cup of mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: sliced pickles or jalapeños for added flavor
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain.
- In the same skillet, season the beef with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
- In the same skillet, crack the egg and fry it sunny-side up or to your preference. Season with a pinch of salt.
- Slice the cooked beef into strips.
- Toast the bread lightly in the skillet or a toaster.
- Assemble the sandwich by spreading mayonnaise on one slice of bread. Layer the beef, bacon, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the fried egg. Add pickles or jalapeños if desired.
- Top with the second slice of bread and press down gently. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a few slices of jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce inside the sandwich.
- Substitute the beef with grilled chicken or a plant-based protein for a different twist.
