Description

A simple and delicious Chicken Teriyaki recipe that impresses with its rich flavors and easy preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Cooked white rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the chicken. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  4. Grill or cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. While the chicken is cooking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth, then add it to the simmering marinade. Stir until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice the chicken into strips.
  8. Serve the chicken over cooked white rice, drizzled with the thickened teriyaki sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute half of the brown sugar with honey or maple syrup.
  • Add steamed broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas to the dish for extra vegetables and color.
