A quick and delicious recipe for Butter Paneer, a popular Indian dish made with paneer and a rich, creamy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound paneer, cubed
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 medium tomatoes, pureed
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the tomato puree, red chili powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil begins to separate from the mixture.
- Add the cubed paneer to the skillet and gently stir to coat the paneer with the sauce.
- Pour in the heavy cream and water, stirring well to combine. Simmer for another 5 minutes on low heat.
- Finish by adding the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and stir until melted. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add more red chili powder or include diced green chilies.
- Substitute heavy cream with coconut milk for a dairy-free option while maintaining a rich flavor.
