Description

A delightful black sesame dessert soup that is both creamy and flavorful, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup black sesame seeds
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk (optional for creaminess)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the black sesame seeds under cold water to remove any impurities. Drain well.
  2. In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the black sesame seeds for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
  3. Transfer the toasted sesame seeds to a blender or food processor. Add 1 cup of water and blend until smooth. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine the sesame paste with the remaining 3 cups of water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  5. Stir in the sugar and salt, adjusting the sweetness to your preference. If using coconut milk, add it now for a creamier texture.
  6. If you prefer a thicker soup, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the soup while stirring continuously until it reaches your desired thickness.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. The soup can be enjoyed warm or chilled.

Notes

  • For added texture, consider topping the soup with crushed nuts or a sprinkle of toasted coconut flakes before serving.
  • Experiment with flavors by adding a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon for a unique twist.
