Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 medium carrot, julienned
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for cooking
- Cooked rice, for serving
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- Add the sliced onion and carrot to the skillet and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in the chopped green onions.
- Serve the beef bulgogi over cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds.
Notes
- For a sweeter flavor, add a bit more brown sugar or a splash of pineapple juice to the marinade.
- Try using thinly sliced mushrooms or bell peppers for added vegetables in the stir-fry.
