Description
Zucchini Bun Hot Dogs are a delightful, low-carb treat that substitutes traditional buns with zucchini, making them a healthier option.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium zucchinis
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
- Toppings of choice (mustard, ketchup, diced onions, relish, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Slice the zucchinis in half lengthwise and scoop out some of the flesh to create a bun-like shape, leaving about 1/4 inch of zucchini on the sides.
- In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Brush this mixture onto the cut sides of the zucchini.
- Place the zucchini halves on a baking sheet, cut side up, and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until they start to soften.
- While the zucchini is baking, cook the hot dogs according to your preference (grilling, boiling, or pan-frying).
- Once the zucchini is done, remove it from the oven and place a hot dog in each zucchini half.
- Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately.
Notes
- For added flavor, sprinkle some shredded cheese on top of the hot dogs before returning them to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
- Try using different types of squash or eggplant for a unique twist on the bun.
