Description
A creamy and flavorful mousse made with smoked trout and fresh watercress, perfect as an appetizer or spread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces smoked trout, skin removed and flaked
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup watercress, stems removed and roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon capers, drained and chopped
- 1 tablespoon chives, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flaked smoked trout, cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, dill, salt, and black pepper. Use a fork or a hand mixer to blend until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold in the chopped watercress and capers until evenly distributed throughout the mousse.
- Transfer the mixture to a serving dish or individual ramekins. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the mousse to firm up.
- Before serving, garnish with chopped chives. Serve with crackers, toasted bread, or vegetable sticks.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mousse mixture.
- Substitute smoked salmon for the smoked trout for a different flavor profile while keeping the dish delicious.
