Description
Roasted Cabbage Burgers are a delicious low-carb alternative to traditional burgers, featuring savory meat patties topped with melted cheese and wrapped in tender cabbage leaves.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large green cabbage leaves
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- ½ avocado, sliced
- Lettuce leaves for serving
- Condiments of choice (ketchup, mustard, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Carefully remove 2 large leaves from the cabbage and trim the thick stem at the base to make them easier to fold.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear each patty for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
- Place the seared patties on the prepared baking sheet. Top each patty with shredded cheese and then place a cabbage leaf on top of each patty, pressing down gently.
- Roast in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Assemble your burgers by placing the roasted cabbage patty on a lettuce leaf and topping with tomato and avocado slices. Add your favorite condiments.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with a plant-based burger patty or a mixture of black beans and quinoa.
- Add spices or herbs like cumin or fresh cilantro to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
