Description

Roasted Cabbage Burgers are a delicious low-carb alternative to traditional burgers, featuring savory meat patties topped with melted cheese and wrapped in tender cabbage leaves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large green cabbage leaves
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • ½ avocado, sliced
  • Lettuce leaves for serving
  • Condiments of choice (ketchup, mustard, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Carefully remove 2 large leaves from the cabbage and trim the thick stem at the base to make them easier to fold.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear each patty for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  6. Place the seared patties on the prepared baking sheet. Top each patty with shredded cheese and then place a cabbage leaf on top of each patty, pressing down gently.
  7. Roast in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Assemble your burgers by placing the roasted cabbage patty on a lettuce leaf and topping with tomato and avocado slices. Add your favorite condiments.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with a plant-based burger patty or a mixture of black beans and quinoa.
  • Add spices or herbs like cumin or fresh cilantro to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
