Description

Potato Cheese Balls are irresistibly crunchy delights that are perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (about 3 medium potatoes)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Scoop out about 2 tablespoons of the potato mixture and form it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture, placing the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and the breadcrumbs in a third dish.
  4. Roll each potato ball in the flour, then dip it in the beaten egg, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Make sure each ball is evenly coated.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  6. Carefully add a few potato balls to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to remove the balls from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining potato balls.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the potato mixture.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as mozzarella or pepper jack, for a unique flavor twist.
