Description

Marry Me Tofu is an irresistible vegan delight that combines crispy tofu with a flavorful marinade, perfect for serving over rice or with steamed vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let them soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor.
  4. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil.
  5. Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss gently to coat each piece.
  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes to the skillet in a single layer.
  7. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the tofu from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
  10. Serve hot over rice or with steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, try double frying the tofu by frying it once, letting it cool, and frying it again for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add your favorite vegetables to the skillet while frying the tofu, such as bell peppers or broccoli, for a complete meal.
