Description
Marry Me Tofu is an irresistible vegan delight that combines crispy tofu with a flavorful marinade, perfect for serving over rice or with steamed vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let them soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil.
- Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss gently to coat each piece.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes to the skillet in a single layer.
- Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tofu from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
- Serve hot over rice or with steamed vegetables.
Notes
- For extra crunch, try double frying the tofu by frying it once, letting it cool, and frying it again for 2-3 minutes.
- Add your favorite vegetables to the skillet while frying the tofu, such as bell peppers or broccoli, for a complete meal.
