Description

Crispy Tea-Smoked Chicken Bites are a delicious and flavorful dish that combines marinated chicken with a unique tea-smoking technique for an explosion of taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cooked rice (for serving)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup uncooked white rice (for tea-smoking mixture)
  • 1/4 cup black tea leaves (for tea-smoking mixture)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for tea-smoking mixture)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for tea-smoking mixture)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Mix well and marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  2. While the chicken is marinating, prepare the tea-smoking mixture. In a small bowl, mix together the uncooked rice, black tea leaves, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. After marinating, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated chicken pieces in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to low. Add the tea-smoking mixture to the skillet and spread it evenly across the bottom. Place a wire rack or a heatproof plate on top of the mixture. Cover the skillet tightly with a lid or aluminum foil to trap the smoke.
  5. Allow the chicken to smoke for about 10-15 minutes. Keep the heat low to prevent burning the smoking mixture.
  6. Once smoked, remove the chicken from the rack and serve over cooked rice.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
  • Try using different types of tea, such as green tea or jasmine tea, for a unique flavor profile.
